Assistant Manager/Barista-"HIRING"

Minimum Qualification: 1 year barista experience / 1 year supervisor

Our popular and bustling cafe in Dumbo, Brooklyn is looking for a new assistant manager/barista to help lead our team. Our Dumbo location is neatly situated feet from Brooklyn Bridge Park. Our customers are comprised of weekend tourists and daily regulars from the businesses and apartments surrounding us. It is a high volume cafe so experience in a similar environment is a plus. We are currently hiring for a full time assistant manager that will take on opening and closing shifts as well as at least one weekend day.

The best candidate for this position understands that the primary responsibility of this role is managing and developing people. That skill requires excellent communication skills and high emotional intelligence. Additionally, the right person does not shy away from providing employees with direction and guidance, but is able to do that in a most respectful manner. This position offers an opportunity for growth so we are interested in talking to candidates that are  focused on theirown personal growth while helping our company grow as well. 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Opening and closing the cafe
  • Cash handling, including fulfilling change order from bank 
  • Maintaining cafe while on shift to expectations 
  • Training new staff on café procedures and systems
  • Handling disciplinary conversations, giving write ups, and working with staff to ensure they are meeting necessary standards
  • Communicating with the store manager on a regular basis concerning the café, personnel, and other appropriate matters  
  • Having stellar customer service, and creating an environment that encourages customers to return
  • Creating beautiful looking and delicious tasting hot & cold coffee drinks
  • Serving all of our house made baked goods and being knowledgeable about all of them
  • Maintaining standards of cleanliness and presentation
  • Daily store inventory, product ordering and other prep work related to the position 
Qualifications and requirements:
  • Hard working, willing to get your hands dirty
  • Warm, friendly and a positive attitude, even when the line is long and so is the list of drinks that need to be made
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in regards to upper management
  • Attention to detail is crucial for success at OGC
  • Punctuality, reliability, ability to take direction and manage time
  • Ability to work as part of a team and understand how that quality affects the overall running of the café
  • A true appreciation for good food and quality coffee
  • Capable of training new employees and providing feedback in a constructive manner
  • Ability to handle disciplinary conversations/terminations/write ups
  • At least 1 year previous barista experience required, latte art skills are a plus
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience
  • NYC Food Handler's Permit is required. If you do not have one, you will be asked to obtain one
